A constant build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity such as running or cycling may lead to stresses on the joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves. What should I expect from a Sports Massage session?
On your first treatment a full medical history will be taken to ensure that Sports Massage is safe for you. A treatment plan will then be agreed and treatment commenced. The treatment will consist of a number of techniques which could include:
Effleurage and Petrissage – These are basic massage techniques which can help in the stretching lf muscles and to reduce and sometimes rremove the adhesions between muscle fibres (commonly caled knots!)
Friction – This is a localised technique which is used for specific area of tightness in muscles.
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) – this a stretching technique which can help to stretch exceedingly tight muscles and can prevent injury to muscles.
Soft Tissue Release (STR) – Another stretching technique and useful in stretching injured muscles.
